Shot on video rather than film, this drama anthology series from Channel 4 debuted with ‘Chains of Love’, the story of an all-girl sex-aid party by Hull Truck Company founder Mike Bradwell. The cast included Julie Legrand, Veronica Roberts and Julie Peasgood.
Other memorable plays included Peter Barnes’ trilogy ‘Nobody Here But Us Chickens’, which starred Janet Suzman, Jack Shepherd, Daniel Massey and David Suchet and stressed the right of the disabled not to be patronised; ‘Goodbye and I Hope We Meet Again’ with French Fieldsstar Anton Rodgers as a crumbling architect; ‘Shalom Joan Collins’ starring Anna Massey in the hilarious story of a Jewish family who invite the Dynastystar for tea; and ‘Valentine Falls’ with former EastEndersstar Gary McDonald as a black ex-soldier who takes a job in a Belfast bar.
In ”itch’, Alexei Sayle starred as Rittblatt, a lone hitchhiker desperate to get to Colchester, who arrives in the middle of nowhere on a run-down housing estate awaiting redevelopment to become a New Town. The eccentric Rittblatt makes the derelict and overgrown roundabout his home and begins to have a strange effect on the residents.
