33 x 20 minute episodes
This children’s series from TVS was hosted by Play School presenter Sheelagh Gilbey and encouraged kids to make things using everyday items and objects from around the home.
Sheelagh was a filing clerk at the offices of The Belstow Weekly – a newspaper of some repute – where she produced a lively weekly supplement. Through the supplement, she showed how to make all kinds of unusual things, from jewellery to pink elephant cakes and even a human joke machine.
The concept for the show came from Sheelagh Gilbey herself. It proved so popular that the show was voted ‘Best Children’s Programme’ by readers of Look-In magazine in 1985.
The original six episodes included Bert Parnaby as Mr Snelling. Sheelagh was joined in later series by Norman Tipton and (future Art Attack host) Neil Buchanan, and even later by Sarah Flind as Fiona and Paul Ryan as Ray.
