The evil Grand Duchess Ravenhair seeks to take over the kingdom. When her attempt fails and she destroys herself, a young adopted farmer’s daughter is suddenly endowed with rainbow streaks in her blonde hair – a symbol that she is the true ruler of the land.

Now, as Lady Lovelylocks, and with the help of her two friends – Maiden Fairhair and Maiden Curlycrown – Lady Lovelylocks seeks to restore the kingdom and assume the throne. Continuing the hair theme, her dog is called Silkypup and her horse is called Silkymane.

She befriends a group of creatures called Pixietails (tiny rabbit-like animals with long, brightly-coloured squirrel-like tails), who offer their help.

However, Ravenhair’s vain and evil daughter, Duchess Ravenwaves, believes she is the rightful heir and seeks to gain control of the kingdom. She also believes that the rainbow streaks in Lady Lovelylocks’s hair will give her the power she needs to become the ruler and control the Pixietails.

Stories follow Lady Lovelylocks as she begins her quest – and Ravenwaves efforts to cut the rainbow streaks and acquire the power she needs to rule, assisted by her nasty cohorts, Snarla and Hairball.

Also assisting Lady Lovelylocks is a wizard named Shining Glory and an enchanted dog called Prince (who is actually a handsome young man named Prince Strongheart).

This syndicated cartoon series was developed to promote a toy range from Mattel – including dolls, books, records, tapes, bedding, and plastic dinnerware – which proved extremely popular with young girls at Christmas 1987.
