Studio Z was a storeroom in the sub-sub-sub basement of the ABC television centre. It was here that a group of electronically operated latex puppets lived.
Created by artist Henry Banks, the puppet characters were devil-may-care monkey Ozmoe, whose heart of gold glowed visibly when he did a good deed; leprechaun Roderick Dhon’t; Horatio Q Grigsby, the academic caterpillar; Misty Waters, a curvaceous mermaid; Poe the Crow; Sam the Clam; and Throckmorton the sea serpent.
The short-lived series – alternating daily with The Mary Hartline Show – was broadcast from 6 March 1951 to 12 April 1951, with stories relating their adventures as they sought ways to amuse themselves.
