Terence Brady wrote Pig In The Middle for London Weekend Television with ex-Skippy star Liza Goddard playing attractive and flighty mistress Nellie (Penelope) Bligh and Joanna Van Gyseghem playing his (equally attractive) wife Susan.
Dinsdale Landen was Barty Wade – the bespectacled, middle-aged dotty ditherer they both wanted, but few could see why. Terence Brady himself played the part after the first season.
For three seasons Barty dithered and dallied from woman to woman, refusing to make up his mind one way or the other, until finally, viewers gave up caring.
Terence Brady was offered a four-year deal to play Barty in an American version of the show for ABC Television but he said “no”, giving his reasons as a dislike of flying and the fact that he wasn’t crazy about America.
