Barty Wade (Dinsdale Landen) was a bespectacled, middle-aged dotty ditherer with an attractive wife, Susan (Joanna Van Gyseghem). He also had a flighty (and equally attractive) mistress, Nellie (Liza Goddard).
For three seasons Barty dithered and dallied from woman to woman, refusing to make up his mind one way or the other, until finally, viewers gave up caring.
Writer Terence Brady himself played the part of Barty after the first season. He was also offered a four-year deal to play the role in an American version of the show for ABC Television but he said “no”, giving his reasons as a dislike of flying and the fact that he wasn’t crazy about America.
