30 x 30 minute episodes
Following the success of his first starring show, Now – Something Else, master impressionist Rory Bremner returned with a new self-titled series in May 1988, presenting six episodes a year until June 1992.
Bremner’s Gatling-gun delivery enabled him to switch characters at lightning speed, and he took his victims from a wide sphere, including politicians, radio commentators, sportsmen, interviewers and newsreaders (but mercifully avoided old chestnuts like Frank Spencer and Tommy Cooper).
His huge roster of impressions grew exponentially in the five series of this BBC show, introducing his spot-on versions of (amongst others) Des Lynam, David Frost, Woody Allen, Sir Alec Guinness, George Bush Snr, Leo McKern, Alistair Burnet, Saddam Hussein, Jeremy Paxman and Michael Winner.
The series also marked the start of his professional relationship with ace satirists John Bird and John Fortune, who would become a permanent fixture in the impressionist’s subsequent programmes in the 1990s and beyond.
Bremner was also assisted by Steve Nallon, Enn Reitel, Steve Brown, Sara Crowe, Steve Steen and Jim Sweeney.
Writers included Bremner himself, John Langdon, Steve Steen, Barry Cryer, Steve Punt, Geoff Atkinson, Angus Deayton, David Baddiel, Graeme Garden and Hattie Hayridge.
