This occasional anthology series of hour-long supernatural tales from Granada Television provided plenty of ghosts and paranormal goings-on adapted from short stories set in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Alan Plater and Ken Taylor were among the scriptwriters.
Featured players included James Bolam, Alfred Burke, Hugh Grant, Miranda Richardson, Gareth Thomas, Adrienne Corri, Jeremy Kemp, John Fortune and June Brown.
The original series of seven episodes aired on Friday nights between May and July in 1983. Two additional plays were broadcast in 1986.
The final episode was an adaptation of a short story called The Last Seance by Agatha Christie, produced and directed by June Wyndham Davies. Set in Paris in 1933, it starred Anthony Higgins, Norma West and French actress Jeanne Moreau, appearing in a supporting role.
