Beethoven was a slobbering, headstrong St. Bernard who caused much unintended grief for his owner George Newton.
George (voiced by Dean Jones) and his family lived in the town of Valley Vista. His wife Alice (Kath Soucie) and their children Ted (JD Daniels), Ryce (Nicholle Tom), and young daughter Emily (Francesca Marie Smith), had more tolerance for Beethoven’s actions and worked as a buffer between the two whenever George reached breaking point after Beethoven had made a particularly horrendous mess.
For his part, Beethoven had only unconditional love for his master, a situation which perplexed his fellow talking dog pals- Caesar, the stupid one (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke), Ginger, the wise one (voiced by Tress MacNeille), and Sparky, the energetic one (voiced by Joe Pantoliano). Mr Huggs was the Newtons’ family guinea pig (voiced by Brian George).
Each show contained two separate episodes.
The animated series derived from a 1992 live-action movie of the same name and its 1993 sequel Beethoven’s 2nd. Ivan Reitman produced both movies and this animated TV show.
