19 x 30 minute episodes
Fifteen years after leaving her hometown of Hadley Cove, Texas – a small coastal fishing town on the Gulf of Mexico where they have a phone book called “The Yellow Page” – successful New York businesswoman Kate McCrorey (Judith Ivey) returns for a vacation.
When she learns that the town will be torn down and made into a mini-mall and theme park, she decides to stay and fight her former boyfriend, real estate developer Wade Prescott (Ray Baker), who now works for the company (Python Development) that is planning to build the mall.
Stories also focus on Kate as she helps her father, Walt (Dakin Matthews) and big lug brother, Drew (Eric Allan Kramer), run McCrorey’s Landing, a combination café, mooring dock, bait, fish, tackle and gas store where clam chowder sells for a dollar a bowl, and the special of the day is fresh catfish.
Walt has run the business for 40 years. Drew’s shrimp boat is named the Sea Tramp.
Walt’s cook is a Vietnamese refugee named Tran Van Din (Gedde Watanabe) who has a beautiful sister called Trini Van Din (Kimiko Gelman). For many years Tran thought Trini worked as a prostitute because when she first came to America, she told Tran that she worked in a warehouse – with her accent, Tran thought she said “whorehouse”.
The NBC comedy was the first series produced by Cheers star Ted Danson’s production company.
