Pensacola: Wings of Gold related the adventures of the Sea Dragons, an elite four-person unit of jet fighter pilots based in Florida.
In season one, Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kelly (James Brolin) headed the group. He was divorced and struggling to reestablish ties with his estranged teenage daughter, Janine (Kristanna Loken).
His team consisted of Wendell “Cypher” McCray (Rodney Van Johnson), Annalisa “Stinger” Lindstrom (Kathryn Morris), Robert “Chaser” Griffin (Rodney Rowland) and AJ “Buddha” Conaway (Rodney Rowland). Colonel Rebecca Hodges (Brynn Thayer) was Williams’s superior.
In the second season, Janine was sent off to college and William became the head of a unit that trained fighter pilots. The students were Tucker “Spoon” Henry III (Michael Trucco), Alexandra “Ice” Jensen (Sandra Hess) and Kate Anderson (Barbara Niven).
Major McArthur “Hammer” Lewis Jr. (Bobby Hosea) was William’s new superior. Student Abigail “Mad Dog” Holley (Felicity Waterman) joined the cast in the final season.
The syndicated series was filmed not at the real Pensacola base in Florida but at the Mirimar Naval Air Station in San Diego, California.
