This Channel 4 spoof-documentary series was written by and starred Rowland Rivron as each of the identical Scrote sextuplets who had never met or spoken to each other after their traumatic 18th birthday (“I only hired the balloons and phoned for the ambulance,” was the dark hint offered by Dr Martin Scrote in the first episode).
The first episode featured Dr Martin Scrote, a Senior House Officer at Royal College Hospital, London, and followed his progress over the course of a week. “We have a laugh,” he says to the camera, and several times asks for it to be switched off while contemplating unprofessional conduct. Most notably, nicking some human organs to display for a game on the Jonathan Ross Show, asking viewers to match the celebrity organs with photographs of the same individuals.
Episode two followed David ‘Top Shot’ Scrote, the most creative of the sextuplets, who was a bungling staff photographer on the Bexhill-on-Sea Observer.
Other episodes featured pro boxer Terry “The Tornado” Scrote and his entourage, Uncle Bertram, Mr Shingles and his nemesis “Man Who Packs A Punch” Pickford (Terry was also building a shed); underworld supergrass Ronnie Scrote; Giles Scrote who married into landed gentry and now managed ‘600 Acre Farm’; and the glittering academic career and meteoric rise to the House of Commons of Tarquin Shirley Stanstead Scrote, whose fortunes were reversed in the wake of the Chem-UK scandal, leaving him destitute as “a gentleman of the road” in London’s West End.
