This ITV sci-fi comedy-drama television series from acclaimed author and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz began as a 100-minute television movie on 2 April 1997 before returning as a six-part weekly series in the summer of 1998.
Air freight pilot Nick Cameron (Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey) finds himself wrongly convicted of smuggling plutonium and sent to prison after collecting an inoffensive-looking package on a routine flight to Amsterdam.
In prison, Nick is tricked into volunteering for a government-backed research project ostensibly testing experimental sun-tanning lotions.
But the formula triggers an unpredictable biological side effect which renders Nick invisible whenever his skin comes into contact with water.
Using his newfound, water-activated invisibility powers, Nick breaks out of prison to clear his name and track down whoever framed him.
His extraordinary ability catches the eye of a covert British government intelligence agency, which – instead of throwing him back in jail – exploits his unique condition, recruiting him as a reluctant undercover operative to execute high-stakes espionage and stealth missions that normal (ie: visible) agents could never pull off.
Dr Jeffries (Jill Baker) and Sara Middington (Helen Grace) anchored the shadowy government agency manipulating Nick’s missions. Solicitor Alice Grant (Lucy Akhurst) was Nick’s love interest, and one of the very few people he could trust in the outside world.
Nick’s invisibility would fade as soon as he dried off, which led to plenty of slapstick situations.
