Trevor Thomas stars as Ben, an innocent Guyanan immigrant straight off the boat who settles in Brixton and learns survival techniques in south London. Cheerful Caribbean con-man Dave (Norman Beaton) sees Ben as ripe for the plucking.
Dave lives off the earnings of his girlfriend Miriam (Floella Benjamin) and spends his days and money in gambling clubs and brothels.
Although Dave initially sees Ben as an easy target, the two men ultimately forge a unique friendship based on the corruption of the innocent and the survival of the underdogs.
The film features a soul/reggae soundtrack featuring Jimmy Helm, Johnny Nash, Shirley & Co, Billy Paul, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, The Drifters and The Three Degrees.
