In prehistoric times, Ayla a young blonde, blue-eyed Cro-Magnon girl, is separated from her mother during an earthquake. She is found and cared for by a clan of brutish cave-dwelling Neanderthals.
To the clan, Ayla (Daryl Hannah) is ugly and strange because she doesn’t have a jutting forehead or the right memories. The members of the clan are incapable of learning and only know what the clan has always known – and that is how they survive.
Ayla eventually realises the world is changing and the clan’s lack of ability to learn will cause their extinction. She will be the one who goes on to the future.
The dialogue is a series of grunts translated via subtitles. It’s more Sheena than Quest For Fire.
Although Hannah provides very attractive tall and athletic eye candy, watching Raquel Welch dodging dinosaurs in One Million Years BC is much more entertaining.
