Marshall “Mickey” Briggs (George Gobel) of the Sutton Advertising Agency, is hard-pressed to come up with an idea to follow his successful “Miss Luxenberg” beauty contest campaign for the Luxenberg Beer company.
His original contest popularised the beer and led to his marriage to the winner of the beauty contest, gorgeous buxom blonde Janice Blake (Diana Dors).
Pushed by his boss, Frederick W. Sutton (Adolphe Menjou), to come up with a new idea, Marshall has neglected his wife, and his mother-in-law is suggesting to her daughter that her husband is running around on her. Meanwhile, Janice learns that she is pregnant.
Marshall decides that since Janice is no longer “Miss Luxenberg” but “Mrs Luxenberg” it would be a great idea to round up all former winners who have married and have a “Mrs Luxenberg” contest.
Unfortunately, the last winner is now pregnant and most of the former winners have become fat through drinking Luxenberg Beer.
John Wayne appears as himself in a clever movie-within-a-movie which appears in Technicolour, even though the rest of I Married a Woman is in black & white.
