The Maisonettes were an English pop band The Maisonettes was formed by Laurence “Lol” Mason following the break up of his previous band City Boy (who enjoyed chart success in 1978 with the single 5.7.0.5).
The group’s debut single, the Motown-infused Heartache Avenue, reached #7 on the UK Singles Chart in early 1983, topped the UK Independent Chart, and later reached #12 on the Canadian chart and #97 in Australia.
The follow-up single, Where I Stand, peaked at #28 on the UK Independent Chart. In 1984 their album, Maisonettes for Sale, was released in Canada, but with no further hits forthcoming, the group soon disbanded.
Laurence “Lol” Mason died on 30 July 2019 from a heart attack at his home in Harborne, Birmingham, after complications following a kidney transplant. He was 69.
