Under their own steam Pendragon released half a dozen albums between 1985 (The Jewel) and 2001 (Not Of This World).
Their first two albums offered a variation on the 1980s Brit prog rock theme. Subsequently The World (1991), The Window Of Life (1993), The Masquerade Overture (1996) and Not Of This World adhered to the same basic formula – with a minor tweak each time – but arguably yielding diminishing returns from an entertainment perspective.
Post 2000, though, Pendragon’s leader, guitarist/vocalist Nick Barrett, gradually updated his band’s sound and freed himself from some of their conservative shackles. With Passion (2011), the band genuinely progressed to the next level.
