This Sydney-based Power Pop band was formed in 1983 – originally as The Last Word – from the ashes of the former Australian band The Clones.
The band attracted a large following from the mod scene in Sydney, who adopted The Reasons Why as their own.
Bassist James Rothery joined in 1984, expanding the lineup to a four-piece, with leader Mark Alchin moving from bass to rhythm guitar.
A single was released in 1987 on Phantom Records featuring three of the band’s original compositions – In The End, Undecided and Big Words. Another Alchin song, Undecided, also surfaced on a compilation album called Countdown Under.
Drummer Noel Sharpe left the band after one late night too many and was replaced by Ed Codsi, who had previously played with James Rothery in a local band called Get Smart.
The band called it a day in 1987.
Bassist James Rothery died in February 2015, aged 48.
