Born in 1946, Yvonne Barrett became a regular on Australian pop television show The Go! Show in the 1960s, which resulted in a successful career as a solo pop singer.
In December 1965, Barrett performed for Australian troops in Vietnam and 1970 saw her voted a runner-up in the Go-Set magazine national Pop Poll.
During the 1970’s she moved into session work and club appearances and was a regular on Mary Hardy’s TV show, Penthouse Club, but by the 1980s, she was working as a waitress in Sydney.
On 3 September 1985, Yvonne Barrett was found murdered at her home in the inner western Sydney suburb of Birchgrove. She had been strangled with a belt by her estranged husband, Hoang Van Truong.
He was found guilty of murder in 1986 and sentenced to life imprisonment without a non-parole period.
