Pepsi Max debuted in the UK, Australia and Italy in April 1993. The rollout was then expanded to Ireland, France, Greece, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands.
By the end of 1995, Pepsi Max was sold in over 40 countries but remained unavailable in the United States until 2006 as one of its principal sweetening ingredients (acesulfame potassium) had not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Not quite Diet Pepsi but not the real McCoy either. It tasted a little bit sweet and a lotta bit chemical (and it still does!)
