This weekly spy thriller from Associated-Rediffusion Television starred John Stone as rugged super-spy Mike Anson, a major in the Royal Marines on the trail of the ruthless secret espionage organisation known as ARKAB.
Co-starring were Czech actress Sylva Langova as Sylva; Graham Crowden as Colin; Donald Morley as Jacques Delauny, and Diana Lambert as Phoebe.
Destination Downing Street was recorded “live” in a medium-sized studio at Wembley Park and production was limited to half a dozen scenic settings which could be accommodated in the available space, plus little “bits and pieces” (telephone kiosks, doorways etc) which were useful in linking the story.
Each story ran for four episodes over consecutive Monday nights.
When the series debuted it was very bad indeed. So bad, in fact, that the national press practically petitioned to have it taken off the air.Β There was clearly much frantic re-writing and the series improved beyond expectations.
The series was eventually replaced by Murder Bag.
