14 x 45/30 minute episodes
Actor, singer, dancer, guitarist and booster of bread sales, the ever-zestful Joe Brown hosted this romp through the world of pop music produced by London Weekend Television.
The first season (originally titled Set ’em Up, Joe) debuted on Saturday 31 May 1969 at 6.15 pm, broadcast from a studio that looked as though it had been decorated with pieces from a Meccano set.
Joe was accompanied by six girls and six boys who sang with him.
Joe’s guests included Clodagh Rodgers, Steppenwolf, Sandie Shaw, Frankie Vaughan, Matt Monro, Hank Marvin, Kenny Lynch, Helen Shapiro, Long John Baldry and comedian Arthur Mullard.
When the series returned in 1970 it was trimmed to 30 minutes and simply titled Joe. Brown was joined in the new episodes by The New Temperance Seven, The Breakaways and The Shandy Gaff.
