Temple Houston (Jeffrey Hunter) is a circuit-riding attorney of the post–Civil War southwest. His appearance is one of elegance and his oratorical skills are renowned throughout the Southwest. He is also quite adept as a fast-shooting gunman.
Also travelling with the circuit court is George Taggart (Jack Elam), an ex-gunfighter turned law enforcer who hires himself to the local towns and is either friend or foe of Houston, depending on the interests of Temple’s clients.
Stories relate their experiences to defend unjustly accused people before circuit-riding judges – Temple with his knowledge of the law; George, with his guns, if necessary, to ensure that justice is served.
The real Temple Houston (son of the legendary president of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston) was only 45 when he died of a cerebral haemorrhage in 1905.
