This BBC drama series incorporated three six-part stories and was created and produced by prolific crime-thriller writer Francis Durbridge.
Jack Hedley starred as structural engineer Tim Frazer who turned freelance adventurer and undercover agent for a government intelligence department when his business partner Harry Denston mysteriously disappeared.
Denston had left Frazer with a bankrupt business, having spirited away the proceeds to fund a new life for himself in the North of England.
His investigations into Denston’s whereabouts eventually drew him into the path of the government department which would eventually recruit him – headed by Charles Ross (Ralph Michael).
At the conclusion of the first story, Frazer was sent by Ross on a mission to Amsterdam to monitor the activities of Barbara Day (Patricia Haines), a woman believed responsible for the death of an agent called Leo Sallinger (Hamish Roughead) in a car accident.
The third and final serial, ‘The Mellin Forest Mystery’, saw Frazer sent to Wales to investigate the suspicious death of an undercover agent. He was drawn into the cover story life of a woman by the name of Elaine Bradford, who was also known as Miss Thackeray (Ellen McIntosh).
