Originally to have been titled Five Women, this short-lived spring replacement comedy series from ABC starring Eileen Brennan as Felicia Winters was originally meant to be about five women who live in the same garden apartment complex in Queens, New York. Their husbands would be heard in the next room or on the phone but never seen.

The concept changed to four women plus Felicia’s husband, Steven (Jerry Van Dyke), who worked for a sporting goods company.

Marcia Rodd played divorced neighbour Elaine Dowling (who worked for a company called Marcus of America), Helen Page Camp was widowed Millie Capestro, and Lousie Williams her attractive young daughter, Jill.

Further changes dispensed with Van Dyke and added Francis Lee McCain as Felicia’s sister-in-law, Lois, and Karen Rushmore as neighbour and friend, Camille. This version of the show only lasted three weeks.

The show was cancelled after a test run of just nine episodes.
