This drama series from Granada Television revolved around a family firm of auctioneers.
The House of Caradus was a long-established and highly-respected Chester-based auction house that had fallen on hard financial times and was now on the verge of bankruptcy.
But at least the family still had its share of beautiful daughters and spoiled heirs.
The story revolved around the struggle for power between young wastrel Lionel Caradus (Anthony Smee), whose main claim to fame was his ownership of a rather splendid car, the devious Victor Caradus (Robert Grange), and statuesque Helena (Sarah Bullen), whose higher ideals concealed emotional problems.
None of the three were particularly likeable, and Bartlett Mullins, as old retainer Wilf, was considerably more appealing.
The series captured the drama of the auction room, forged art treasures and the growing competition from London-based auction houses starved of pieces to sell.
