1 9 7 9 – 1 9 8 0 (UK)
13 x 30 minute episodes
This comedy series from Yorkshire Television starred Harry Worth as recently widowed Harry Matthews who was bringing up two lively adolescents – 19-year-old Martin (Giles Watling) and 16-year-old Shirley (Debby Cumming) – in his suburban home on Windsor Avenue.
Harry was a fumbling, bumbling, absent-minded chap who left a trail of chaos and confusion in his wake while trying his best to be a modern father.
The Matthews’ neighbours were nosey Vera Blacker (Fanny Carby) next-door; the bossy Mrs Simkins (Sonia Graham); and Mrs Willoughby (Mela White).
Two series were made of the warm-hearted domestic comedy. It was Worth’s first appearance in a television comedy for four years.
Not to be confused with the 1974 Granada sitcom starring Michael Robbins and Arthur English.
