Television’s “Galloping Gauguin” Nancy Kominsky showed viewers how to produce beautiful paintings in this HTV series.
Nancy was originally ‘assisted’ by grey-suited Alan Taylor – He would play the part of the questioning student and stand with a toilet roll in his hand, which Nancy used to smudge the burnt umber on the canvas and to rub out any mistakes.
In later series’ Nancy appeared alone.
Hands up who would try to recreate the pictures using your watercolour paint box? Nancy drawing a grid of squares on the canvas will surely mean something for those who did.
The secret was never to try and match Nancy’s speed. Because of her skill and experience, she could produce a painting in 15 minutes!
