13 x 30 minute episodes
Stanley Burrell (voiced by MC Hammer) taught dance at a local youth centre in the (mythical) city of Oaktown, California.
Whenever trouble threatened his homeboys, Stanley would put on his magical talking, dancing shoes and transform into his superhero alter-ego, Hammerman.
Stanley inherited the shoes from Gramps (voiced by Robert Nameson) who had been a superhero called Soulman in the 1960s and 1970s but was forced to retire as he became old and weak, passing the baton on to a younger man when.
Hammerman’s main foe was the evil Boss Grindenheimer (voiced by John Stocker) – a convict whose contacts on the outside did his bidding.
The short-lived series was big on lecturing and delivering important educational messages (graffiti is vandalism which is bad; don’t pick on people who are smaller than you etc).
The animation was terrible but MC Hammer himself appeared in live-action clips at the beginning and end of each show.
ABC cancelled the show in its first season.
