Who’s a dirty so and so?
That Beryl Marston!
This short-lived comedy from Southern Television was set in sunny Brighton and starred the Bodley’s – Georgie (Julia McKenzie) and Gerry (Gareth Hunt) – who ran a boutique called Trash in The Lanes.
Georgie and Gerry were successful in business but not in married life, and although they still lived together, their marriage had been blighted by Gerry’s torrid affair with Beryl Marston, the “well-known sex goddess of Sussex” (who was never seen in the show, although there were fleeting glimpses of her from time to time).
The Bodley kids, Jane (Jayne Stevens) and Phil (Jonathan Morris) addressed the viewing audience, commenting on events a la Frankie Howerd in Up Pompeii!
Peter John played the family’s gay friend, Harvey, who ran the health food shop (called Nuts In May) next door to Trash.
Julia McKenzie also sang the theme song.
