S.W.A.T stood for Special Weapons And Tactics – an elite precision-trained armed law enforcement unit whose job it was to handle violent situations that regular police couldn’t deal with, using whatever weaponry was necessary.
All Vietnam veterans, the S.W.A.T. team travelled in a specially equipped van, dressed in semi-military attire and were organised along the lines of a front-line patrol.
Commanding Officer of the team was Lt. “Hondo” Harrelson (Steve Forrest), Sgt. “Deacon” Kay (Rod Perry) was the observer and communicator, Jim (Robert Urich) the team scout, Dominic (Mark Shera) the marksman, and T.J. (James Coleman) the backup.
S.W.A.T. was filmed in Southern California and based loosely on real-life S.W.A.T. teams formed in several large American cities.
