Henry Fonda starred as detective sergeant Chad Smith of the LAPD, 25 years on the force, who worked on burglaries, drug busts, runaway children, bomb threats and, occasionally, homicides.
Chad was married to Betty (Janet Blair) and they were the parents of 18-year-old Cindy (Darleen Carr), 15-year-old Bob (Ron Howard in-between The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days) and 7-year-old Brian (Michael-James Wixted).
Stories combined elements of crime-solving and family life at the Smith’s house at 219 Primrose Lane in Los Angeles.
Ray Martin (John Carter) was Chad’s partner. Captain Hughes (Charles McGraw) was their superior.
The Smith Family was a light-hearted, family-oriented show which clocked up 39 episodes in 1971 and 1972.
