A not very successful comedy series from Yorkshire TV, starring Bill Maynard (Oh No It’s Selwyn Froggitt) as Fred Moffat – the proprietor of the Moffat Engineering Company, a small engineering works forever teetering on the brink of disaster.
There are cash flow problems, absenteeism, malingering and incompetent employees, battles of the sexes and an ever-present danger of strike action.
In the third (1983) series, Moffat decides to stand as a candidate in the local elections and is elected as a councillor, where he does battle with rival councillor Joe Gregory (Alan Hockey).
In the end, the stress of running a factory all becomes too much for the Gaffer so he emigrates to Australia.
The cast included Russell Hunter and Pat Ashton. Production and direction was by Alan Tarrant.
