Television’s most bruised waiter, Manuel (Andrew Sachs), finally came out from under the heel of battling Basil Fawlty only to emerge with a worm’s eye view of the world in this BBC sci-fi adventure (which he co-wrote with director John Downer).
As Vektor – a hapless and misinformed historian from the artificial planet Orbito – he turned up on Earth only three-quarters of an inch tall, accompanied by career spacewoman Plasmid (Sarah Neville).
The pair travel through time and space in their organic spaceship Chimaera and land in an English garden but don’t realise they are so small and wind up on the receiving end of a lot of unpleasant things – like “giant” spiders, worms, goldfish and a tortoise.
The Galactic Garden was filmed by the BBC’s Natural History Unit in Bristol. The underwater goldfish scenes were shot in the swimming pool at Butlins Minehead.
