This two-part Aussie miniseries followed two lines: the strained relationships that surface in a large extended family during its annual gathering to visit great-aunt Alice (Phyllis Burford) and help pick her apple crop, and the mystery surrounding the seemingly accidental death of Damien (Brian Vriends), which is found to have been a murder.
Naturally, the two are connected.
The solid cast included Max Cullen as the scruffy, bumbling detective and Liddy Clark as “Birdie”, the yuppy freelance researcher and sometime-solicitor who takes over the investigation with bright-eyed, bespectacled enthusiasm.
The Agatha Christie-style whodunit was based on a novel by Jennifer Rowe. Made by the South Australian Film Corporation, the episodes aired on the Australian Nine Network.
The director was Ric Pellizzeri.
