This BBC2 series featured Marti Caine in her sitcom debut as Hilary Myers, a researcher for a TV chat show called Search Light on Eagle Television.
Divorcee Hilary was terminally disorganised and inevitably created chaos at work – where George (Philip Madoc) was her demanding boss, Kimberley (Jack Smethurst of Love Thy Neighbour fame) was her insensitive coworker, and Angela (Sandra Carrier) was her secretary.
Things weren’t much better at home, where she had a 19-year-old son, Dan (Owen Whittaker), and a pet mynah bird called Arthur (“because he’s a miner”). Her neighbour Wesley was played by Philip Fox.
Despite poor scripts and lukewarm reviews, Hilary was later repeated on BBC1 and returned in July 1986 for six more episodes.
Marti Caine developed lymphatic cancer and died in 1995 at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. She was just 50.
