Created and written by comedian Tony Hawks (who also starred in the lead role), this BBC series was a follow-up of sorts to Hawks’ 1987 chart hit Stutter Rap (with his comedy group ‘Morris Minor and the Majors’) with the fictional bandleader attempting to maintain his pop career while running a garage.
Morris ran his car workshop in the town of Normalton with two rather useless assistants – Sedgefield (Carl Gorham) and Sparky Plugg (Andy Serkis). They were terrible mechanics and spent all their time rehearsing their musical act, hoping to break into the big time.
Evil Scotsman Angus Head (Tony Haase) wanted to own the business and hatched devious plans to do so, including marrying Sparky’s yellow-dressed widowed mother, Mrs Plugg (Una Stubbs) – the leaseholder of the garage.
The president of the Morris Minor Driving Club, Mr Winkworth, was played by Donald Hewlett.
Each episode featured a musical interlude from Morris Minor and the Majors.
