Premiering in October 1989, this four-part BBC miniseries starred former Avengers star Diana Rigg in a BAFTA award-winning portrayal of the embittered and dangerously unhinged Helena Vesey, whose obsessive love for her only son has terrifying repercussions.
Based on a novel by Domini Taylor, the story centred on Helen’s bitter hatred of her former husband Alex (David McCallum) and her overbearing smothering of their only son, Kit (James Wilby), a promising young barrister.
For years, she has denied Kit any contact with his father – but when she discovers he and his new wife Angela (Fiona Gilles) have been seeing Alex without her knowledge, revenge is anything but sweet – and starts with a murder.
