This belated NBC sequel picks up where the original Sanford and Son series left off with Lamont having moved away to work on the Alaska pipeline, leaving Fred (Redd Foxx) alone to run the junkyard by himself.
Cal (Dennis Burkley), a friend of Lamont’s, moves down to Watts to help Fred run the business.
In the meantime, Fred meets a rich widow named Eve (Marguerite Ray) and falls in love.
This is not good news for Eve’s family who don’t like the fact that she could fall for a common junk man.
Nobody could understand what she saw in Fred, especially her daughter, Cissy (Suzanne Stone), her brother, Winston (Percy Rodrigues), and her outspoken maid, Clara (Cathy Cooper).
The show follows Fred as he keeps on trying to make a success of both his junk business and his love affair with Eve.
The series premiered strongly but declined steadily during the first season. The show was then put on hiatus and retooled with NBC moving it from Saturday nights to Friday nights (the original night for Sanford and Son).
The characters of Rollo, Winston, Cissy, and Clara were dropped with no explanation and the old characters of Aunt Esther (LaWanda Page) and Grady () returned from the original series. The ratings continued to be poor and the series was cancelled four episodes into the second season.
