Lydia Deetz (voiced by Alyson Court) was a ponytailed prepubescent Goth girl living with her average suburban parents Charles (Roger Dunn) and Delia (Elizabeth Hanna) in an average suburban house when she hooked up with Beetlejuice, a bizarre fellow from the afterlife.
Dressed in a garish striped shirt and sporting some of the most crooked green teeth seen on television, Beetlejuice (voiced by Stephen Ouimette) acted as a protector to Lydia in various scrapes once she conjured him up by saying his name three times fast.
His solutions typically involved him going with an intrigued Lydia to his home, the Neitherworld, where even more bizarre creatures – most of them parodies of pop culture (notably Jacques the fitness-crazed skeleton, Ginger the tap-dancing spider, and the Monster Across the Street) – either befriended or bedevilled them.
This ABC series was based on the 1988 film of the same name which starred Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder as Lydia. Toward the end of its run, this animated series also included Doomie the Car, who liked to chase dogs.
