Liverpudlian Red Dwarf star Craig Charles presented this noisy late-night chat and variety show, supposedly broadcast from a bar in an underground club beneath the streets of London (the “Funky Bunker”) but clearly recorded in the studio.
Produced and directed by Mike Mansfield, this LWT show featured (largely unknown) guests, (largely unknown) comedy acts and live music from unsigned (and largely unknown) bands.
Regulars included a camel-obsessed American character named ‘Abdul Fez’ (who wore sunglasses and a fez), celebrity gossip expert David Wigg, “Agony Uncle” Matt Welcome, Nanny Whip (a plus-sized buxom woman with skin-tight cleavage-accentuating dresses and bleached platinum hair), film critic Lana Pillay, the “Mysterious” Dr Destiny, and a troupe of scantily-clad dancing girls called ‘The Funky Feathers’.
Episodes also featured inane games for the studio audience (stripping, smashing raw eggs in their faces etc) and competitions where viewers at home could win £500 by phoning a premium rate number for 50p a minute.
