This BBC1 series featured Birds of a Feather stars Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson hurling themselves at alternative careers in a 1990s version of In At The Deep End, a show in which former That’s Life presenter Chris Serle used to take all sorts of oddball challenges on the chin.
Over four weeks, the pair were given a series of challenges involving their training for a new career. The first was to train two Old English Sheepdogs (‘Sugar’ and ‘Josephine’) to compete at the top dog show, Crufts.
They also tried their hands at working on the Guardian national daily newspaper (Quirke as a journalist and Robson as a photographer); leading two teams of top British anglers in a deep-sea and freshwater match, and making their debut as classical singers in front of 9,000 people.
Pauline and Linda returned for a special Christmas episode – “Pauline and Linda Plan a Party” – where they had to organise a star-studded ball in aid of Children in Crisis, the charity funded and chaired by The Duchess of York.
