Mischievous and meddling pensioner Peter Banks (George Cole) is the sort of man who refuses to grow old gracefully. The widower lives with his house-proud daughter, Betty (Matilda Ziegler in the first series, then Annabelle Apsion), and her husband, Brian (Michael Lumsden), where he is struggling to retain his independence.
Peter then forges a zany friendship with retired librarian Harry King (Richard Pearson) and moves into the house where Harry lodges with his lovely landlady, Ellie (played by Minnie Driver in the first series, and Lesley Vickerage in the second) and her small son.
Written by top comedy creator Bob Larbey, the series featured guest appearances from Joan Sims and Rosalind Knight.
