“Diligent, alert and hard-working, the Spacecats are always on the job! Except for Tuesdays and certain bank holidays.”
The stars in this NBC Saturday morning cartoon series were an advanced race of alien cats who lived on the planet Triglyceride 7, where their ruler was a disembodied green head known as D.O.R.C (the Disembodied Omnipotent Ruler of Cats), voiced by Charles Nelson Reilly.
D.O.R.C ordered a quartet of cats to act as ambassadors to Earth, and their adventures provided the storylines for the episodes.
The four feline aliens were Tom (a weapons expert), Scratch (a master of disguises), Sniff (who had a keen sense of smell but also several allergies), and their leader, Captain Catgut.
The series – which mixed animation and animatronic characters – was created and co-produced by ALF creator Paul Fusco, who also provided the voice of Captain Catgut.
