NBC gave ex-Cheers star Kelsey Grammer a radio advice show and produced the hit Frasier. Now CBS tried to make lightning strike twice with Under The Hood, in which Grammer’s former bar buddy George Wendt pontificated about Pontiacs on his own radio show.
George Coleman (Wendt) and his brother Dan (Pat Finn) were bickering bachelor siblings running an auto-repair business in Madison, Wisconsin.
They also hosted a radio show – “Points and Plugs” – answering car questions and discussing their lives. Their show was loosely based on a real-life nationally syndicated public radio show called “Car Talk”.
Libby (Kate Hodge), Finnie (Brian Doyle-Murray) and Fletcher (Mark Christopher Lawrence) were the mechanics.
The show debuted on 8 March 1995, did poorly in the ratings and by mid-April, CBS had pulled the plug.
