It was meant to be a heartfelt tribute to the man behind numerous Looney Tunes cartoons and the creator of such classic characters as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, but this ill-fated syndicated anthology series instead turned out to be an awful Animaniacs-inspired travesty.
Although the series featured some of animation’s best voice actors, such as Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, and Cree Summer, the shows contained none of the iconic Warner Brothers characters Avery had turned into cultural icons and focused, instead, on a lacklustre (and downright insulting) caricature of the legendary animator himself.
The included cartoons were badly drawn, badly animated, badly written, badly directed and decidedly unfunny.
Airing for 65 episodes between 1997 and 1998, a full seventeen years after Avery’s death, be thankful he wasn’t around to witness it.
