This short-lived BBC2 series explored divorce as seen through the experiences of Roger Flower (Jonathan Pryce in his first venture into sitcom land after much stage acclaim).
Roger is an impoverished aspiring composer who divorces his acrimonious wife Emma (Diane Fletcher) – who considers him one of the three most evil men in the history of the world – for the arms of flaky Northern girlfriend Rose (Kate Fahy) who is married to a wrestler called Stanley (Michael Elphick).
Once divorced, Emma concentrates her energy on making life as difficult as possible for Roger – withdrawing her guarantee of his overdraft at the bank and having him summoned to Judge’s chambers to make him settle her legal fees and child maintenance arrears.
The unfunny comedy also depicted Roger’s efforts to win back the affections of his children, Arabella (Alice Berry) and Charles (Benjamin Taylor), who were turned against him by their mother.
