The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) will play classic Countdown episodes in the show’s original timeslot from 17 September.
Classic Countdown will air on Sunday nights at 6 pm. The show will air for 13 weeks spanning the 13 years of Countdown from 1974 to 1987. Each week will cover a different year from the Countdown era.
Each episode will be narrated by an artist who was originally involved with the show. John Paul Young, Kate Ceberano, Steve Kilbey (from The Church) and Richard Clapton have been confirmed as guest hosts.
The shows will also feature Gavin Wood, the show’s original announcer.
Each show will follow the original Countdown format and include highlights of ‘Humdrum’, Molly Meldrum‘s music news segment.
Coinciding with the show, ABC Music will also release a four CD collection, also called Classic Countdown, featuring tracks from ABBA, Skyhooks, Iggy Pop, Hall & Oates, Cyndi Lauper, John Farnham and more.
The Classic Countdown album will be released on 15 September 2017.
