Miraculously escaping death in a fiery explosion set by Nayland Smith, Chinese criminal mastermind Dr Fu Manchu (Christopher Lee) and his army of henchmen return in this, the second film of five in producer Harry Alan Towers’ Fu Manchu series.
This time around, Fu Manchu is kidnapping the ravishingly beautiful daughters of prominent scientists and taking them to his remote island headquarters. Instead of asking for ransom, Fu demands that the fathers help him to build a lethal death ray, which he intends to use to take over the world.
But Fu’s arch-enemy, Sir Denis Nayland Smith of Scotland Yard (played this time around by Douglas Wilmer) – assisted by pathologist Dr Petrie (Howard Marion-Crawford) and Parisian Inspector Pierre Grimaldi (Roger Hanin) – is determined not to let that happen.
Tsai Chin returns as Fu Manchu’s evil daughter Lin Tang.
This is the only one of the series to be filmed entirely in England and filming began only one month after The Face of Fu Manchu premiered in the USA.
