Investigative television journalist Deborah Balin (Lee Grant) falls foul of a mentally deranged viewer and is brutally attacked in her home. She is taken into hospital by her friendly news show producer, Gary Baylor (William Shatner) and cared for by a dedicated nurse, Sheila Munroe (Linda Purl).
Deborah soon discovers, however, that far from her horrifying ordeal being over, it is in reality only just beginning.
Lurking in a darkened corridor near Deborah’s room is the psychopath who attacked her, a man called Colt Hawker (Michael Ironside). Deborah’s recent broadcast triggered off a painful memory from his unhappy childhood and now he intends to kill her.
It is not his intention that she should die easily. He is prowling with a six-inch blade and a camera to capture the agony on her face during the diabolically gruesome murder he has planned for her.
Visiting Hours gave Lee Grant another chance to display the dramatic talents that won her an Academy Award for Shampoo (1975) and nominations for The Landlord (1970) and Voyage of the Damned (1976).
